Together, a mix of renewable energy options- solar and wind, and improved energy efficiency help to meet the farm’s heating and electricity demands.
A sustainable way to farm
We produce energy, crops and livestock without using more resources than we can replace in an environmentally sensitive way, and is central to everything we do.
Sheepdrove Organic Farm believes that to continue relying on fossil fuels is not sustainable. We believe that everyone should make an effort to use more clean and renewable sources of energy where they can.
Together, a mix of renewable energy options- solar and wind, and improved energy efficiency help to meet the farm’s heating and electricity demands. We're always striving to shrink our ‘Carbon Footprint’ - the amount of greenhouse gases created by the farm's activities.
Future proof farmingThe concept of organic farming has sustainability at its core. Creating a closed loop, a way of cycling nutrients within the system (the farm) completely avoids having to bring in any artificial inputs, so organic farms like Sheepdrove are self-sustaining.
For example we grow crops for grain, the waste product, the straw, is used to bed the cattle sheds in winter. In spring the cows go out and the sheds are emptied, the manure is mixed with garden waste and composted and put back on the land to help the crops to grow.
This is a sustainable system, and is at the heart of everything we do.
